OBJECT PERMANENCE (TEASER)

Object Permanence is the understanding that whether an object can be sensed has no effect on whether it continues to exist. One of the most concrete ways that developmental psychologists test this theory is through the game of peek-a-boo.
Object permanence is a study on grief. A way to question intangible permanence and the idea of death itself. The film follows two subjects as they play a game of peek-a-boo when one suddenly goes missing and the aftermath of the disappearance.
Created in an attempt to mourn the death of one of my closest friends after his passing, Object Permanence became a way to explore Black masculinity within queer friendships, and the idea of brotherhood while trying to reconsile the inability to say goodbye.
Object Permanence is a haunting not a resolution.

MY BODY IS AN OBJECT,
THE CAMERA IS A GUN

(2024 - )

(Urinals, Bathroom Stall Partitions, BB Gun, Camera, 2 Channel Video Projection, Sound)

THIRTY THREE

BOTTOM SHAME (2025)

(Camping Toilet, Silicon Sex Doll Molds, Enema, Internal Sound Loop)

MY BODY IS AN OBJECT, THE CAMERA IS A GUN follows a subject during masturbation - taking a look at their desires until they reach climax. Taking reference from vintage gay magazines like XY and inspired by the saturated use of homoeroticism in marketing, MY BODY IS AN OBJECT, THE CAMERA IS A GUN places these images and tropes within the context of Black queer men. Through dual screen projections the film aims to create a sense of foreplay between two channels.  With multiple installation formats, the piece aims to transform the gallery into a space for cruising.

DRAPETOMANIA: PROTOTYPES (2022- )

Drapetomania was a supposed mental illness that, in 1851, American physician Samuel A. Cartwright hypothesized as the cause of enslaved Africans fleeing captivity. Slave life was so pleasant, the official view was, that only the mentally ill would want to run away.
Drapetomania is multi-channel film based installation examining the relationship between policing and Blackness.  Through queer kink practices and aesthetics Drapetomania aims to address concepts of Black paranoia, rage and captivity.

Drapetomania cements itself within the political and social climate of 2020 collaging my own personal accounts located in Boston with the larger wave of protests which spread across the country.

Meant to immerse the viewer - Drapetomania became my take on a "panic room."
