ARTIST BIO:
Born in 2001, Juan Lopez (they / them) is a Dominican filmmaker, installation artist, and current MFA candidate at Columbia University making work under the alias of CR4CKROCK. Through moving image and projection mapping they aim to deploy the reappropriation and dismantling of racialized violence through representations of Black rage and queer reclamation. Incorporating the use of BDSM aesthetics and kink practices as a way to speak to this racialized violence; CR4CKROCK aims to dismantle the gallery as a “colonial” space - intrinsically linking the gallery to the underground; while asserting the underground as Black.
